Lauren D’Amato, 20, was killed in a fatal car accident that occurred on November 28, 2010, around 4:45a.m. in Yorktown Heights, New York. According to Yorktown Fire Chief Martin McGannon, D’Amato was driving a 1995 Honda Accord southbound on Hanover Street when she lost control and struck two trees near California Road.
The impact of the collision was so strong that D’Amato’s car caught fire. Nearby residents evacuated D’Amato out of her car. Unfortunately, this quick help was not enough to save her life. The emergency crew, on their arrival, pronounced her dead. It is not clear what made D’Amato lose control of her vehicle and struck the trees.
The investigation is still being conducted. Unfortunately, it is unclear from the facts of the story as to what lead to loss of control. There is a possibility that the accident may have been the result of a mechanical defect or design issue. It could have also been the result of an uneven road surface. Regardless of the facts, the victims’ families should consult with a personal injury attorney who can hire a trained private detective to investigate how the accident occurred and also to determine if the accident was the cause of someone else’s negligence.
It is heart wrenching to lose a young member of the family. In this difficult time for the family, an experienced personal injury lawyer can help them to obtain compensation to cover funeral and burial costs, loss of future earnings, loss of love and companionship, and other accident related damages.
Our law office offers sincere condolences to all those who knew and loved D’Amato for their loss.
